OWERRI—A chieftain of Imo State All Progressives Congress, APC, Mr. Livinus Okwara, yesterday berated the leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo regarding it’s stand on the just concluded presidential election which produced President Muhammadu Buhari as winner.
Okwara told newsmen in Owerri that Ohanaeze had failed to lead the Ndigbo to the promised land.
It should be recalled that Ohanaeze reportedly adopted the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as it’s presidential candidate for last Saturday’s election which he (Atiku) lost to Buhari.
However, Okwara said that Buhari’s return was a victory for progressives in the country. He also added that Buhari would not support indispline at any level in the process of governance.
The APC stalwart mentioned that one of Buhari’s achievements that earned him re-election was the whistle-blower policy.
According to Okwara, the policy aided in the fight against corruption and spurred Nigerians to join in the campaign of exposing all forms of corrupt practices.
He said that, “Buhari has put down consolidated fund that will last beyond the issue of waiting for the budget. Listen to me now, Buhari is not backing sharia law as people are saying.
“I will like to say that Ohanaeze should be scrapped because they have been causing problems. You hear today that they support this person and the next day, they support another person and now look at where they have landed us.”
Ohanaeze faction congratulates Buhari
Meanwhile, a faction of Ohanaeze Ndigbo has congratulated President Muhammandu Buhari on his victory at the presidential election held in February 23, 2019.
Addressing journalists in Enugu yesterday, the suspended Secretary General of Ohanaeze, Uche Okwukwu said that Buhari’s victory has shown that the president has been on the right course in the last four years.
Okwukwu noted that Ndigbo were deeply happy that Buhari secured more votes in Igbo land than he got in 2015.
“We urge all Nigerians and the international community to accept the verdict as the election was adjudged free, credible, transparent and peaceful.
“We also call on all not to heat up the polity through unguarded utterances and actions,” Okwukwu stated.
He disclosed that they will soon pay a visit to President Buhari to formally congratulate him and present a charter of demands.
Okwukwu accused President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Nnia Nwodo of deceiving and misleading Ndigbo, adding that he should have gotten facts and followed the Constitution of Ohanaeze before taking a decision of such magnitude.
He expressed dismay that appeals to Nwodo to shift the Imeobi meeting where the presidential candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar was endorsed to enable governors and members of Imeobi to attend met brick walls as the meeting was concluded before 6pm.
